Interdisciplinary Studies PR CampaignClient: Dr. Gregory Bruce, NGU Interdisciplinary Studies Department
Challenge: To change the mentality North Greenville faculty and some students perceived the Interdisciplinary Studies degree installed by informing and providing more platforms for dialog, community building, and career building. The primary objective was to meet the audience where they were to help show them what the degree is actually all about. Role: I began this campaign back in Spring 2016 as a freshman of the program as I quickly realized how much of PR efforts the department needed. I began by handling marketing duties for events like Poetry Night and Senior Presentations. Then the first Vox Series event happened as an alumnus came to speak to current students on how his education in Interdisciplinary thinking helped him get to his current career. After that event, the students developed a women’s event and continued Poetry Nights at a higher level through the implementation of social media more specifically Facebook events and live-stream. In Spring of 2018, a Public Relations Campaign class conducted a study on the Interdisciplinary Studies department to see how efforts were being received and results showed that there was still work to be done. I then began a Facebook group for current students, managed the alumni group and finally made a public Facebook page to promote the program and have a center point for the public to see everything the department was doing. Results: After three years of research, events, and marketing there is a growing community of students, faculty, and alumni that see and appreciate the structure of an integrative form of education through the IDS department at NGU. Now there are multiple platforms that will be easy to manage for future students and work studies. Overall this project encompasses everything I have learned of marketing, public relations, and event planning as this campaign called for someone to take care of all media to tell the same story and promote the program. |
